CITY OF DREAMS
Originally intended to be part of a larger short film, time and the chaos of life meant this project stayed on the shelf for a very long time. After 2 years I decided to take the footage for a spin to express some of the meanings and emotions I initially wanted to present 2 years ago. Shot on a Friday night with a real close friend of mine, a day or so before we both had to catch our flights back to our uni studies. It was a very peaceful evening and we both appreciated spending some extra time together before moving half a globe away for another few years. I've long wanted to showcase my personal experience of the city, contrasting the usual depiction of dizzying activity. For me Hong Kong often feels ethereal, especially as you walk deeper and deeper into its inner layers. Streets and buildings merge whilst neons meld into one big glow. It's truly a experience difficult to put into words, one that I'm eager to share with others. Some will recognise the obvious Wong kai and Mamoru Oshii references that I absolutely love. All this to say that yes, it is possible to dream around in a city that's always in movement, that never 'sleeps' so to say.
